Timothy Bair

Various Small Fires

February 10 - April 14, 2022

Description

LAUNCH F18 is proud to present Various Small Fires, an online viewing room by the painter Timothy Bair.  This online presentation marks the first collaboration with the artist.

Throughout his work Timothy Bair confronts the viewer with both fiction and truth, hidden beneath a layer of colorful paint and intricate line work. Utilizing his unique perspective, the works presented in Various Small Fires illustrate numerous stories, both relatable and un-relatable, creating a web of possibilities and narratives that connect to some form of everyday life. Within each piece there are an infinite number of particles to be understood - from nearly hidden details, to meaningful symbols, equally distributed across the canvas, and equally as important whether large or small.

Various Small Fires includes paintings and drawings, masterfully executed by Bair. Concerted anthologies mixed with visual memoirs come to the forefront of Bair’s work, and capture a multitude of layers beneath the stunning surfaces of blues, pinks, purples, and greens. Found within the depth of this work are moments that celebrate the delicacy, and boundless beauty of the human experience, and everyday life.

Timothy Bair (b. 1996, Taichung) is a Taiwanese American artist whose practice exists at the intersection of autobiography and collective history, exploring issues of cultural pedagogy through the media of drawing, painting, and sculpture. The process and imagery in Bair’s work is catalyzed by the atmospheric biases that often arise from his experiences navigating his surroundings as a person with disability. He received a B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in 2019. Past exhibitions include a solo exhibition at Mark Christopher Gallery in Toronto, Ontario and numerous group exhibitions including Mi Casa Studios, New York; Lancaster Museum of Art, Lancaster, PA; John F. Kennedy Center, Washington, DC; and Ashok Jain Gallery, New York. In 2019 Bair was awarded the John F. Kennedy Center Honors Emerging Artist Award of Excellence. He currently lives and works in New York City.
