Paul Guilmoth

Hanging Silk to Dry

January 20 - March 17, 2022

Description

LAUNCH F18 is proud to present Hanging Silk to Dry, an online viewing room by photographer, Paul Guilmoth.

Within this collection of sixteen works, Paul Guilmoth provides us with a world that is seemingly void of technological and material goods. Guilmoth sets the scene with an array of subjects that are both shocking and mystifying - moths, shadows, fields, flowers, bodies, and spider webs that all come together, creating symbolic portals that propel us into the incalculable. Void of any sense of direct time or place, Guilmoth captures and fluidly constructs universal landscapes, with one hand in the familiar and one hand in the unknown.

Through tone and gradation Guilmoth peels back the veil of community, unencumbered by modernity, sublimely documented by a large-format camera. The eye dances across each image trying to comprehend the mesmerizing landscape that we are confronted with. Guilmoth’s  work focuses the lens on a queer world represented in both physical space and within the mind’s eye. Through composition and tenderness, They give us a hauntingly beautiful glimpse of what it means to be free.
