Jacques Flechemuller

Nothing But The Truth

April 30 - August 27, 2022

Description

French artist Jacques Flechemuller (b. 1945) paints gestural, colorful and undoubtedly humorous figurative paintings.  Described by writer Doug Harvey as a “prankster,” Flechemuller’s work combines a sense of formalist traditional painting, all the while capturing the complex emotions of the human spirit.  Through playful and remarkably unique compositions, Flechemuller’s paintings arrive at a place of subtle but brilliant sophistication.  In the artist’s own words “Humor is a very important function in Art. (I love when my wife stands in front of my work, laughing!) Art is often so serious, pretending to deliver important messages. For messages, there are messengers. I prefer stupid stories. The more stupid they are, the better i feel.”

Nothing But The Truth, brings together a culmination of the artist’s various aesthetics, combining a presentation of drawings and paintings for Flechemuller’s first collaboration with the gallery.  Featured within this online viewing room is a selection of the artist’s work, showcasing the range and incredible variety from his hilarious and original figures, to the complete subtleties of his more minimal gestural hand.  Nothing But The Truth is fun, passionate, and engages in an artistic romanticism that lifts the human spirit through Flechemuller's unbelievable ability to be fun, playful and not take the message too seriously.
