Dan Perkins

Radiant Arcade

May 13 - July 8, 2021

Description

LAUNCH F18 is delighted to present a viewing room of new works on paper by Brooklyn based artist, Dan Perkins.  Radiant Arcade opens on May 13, 2021 and remains on view through July 8, 2021.

Radiant Arcade focuses on three new gouaches by Perkins, a hyper detailed display of the artist’s popular abstract and geometric paintings.  Throughout Perkins’ work, he explores space, light and symmetry that captures a unique dimension to painting itself, effortlessly creating a visual plane deeply connected to the world we experience every day.

Exploring themes of Romanticism and even Transcendentalism, the work within Radiant Arcade has constructed architectural spaces that appear physical in their own unique way.  Though we know that these are paintings, the dimensions that are created within these works capture a sense of physicalness that feels real and almost touchable, trusting one’s own intuition over any sense of empiricism.

The viewing room title, Radiant Arcade, references the idea of a luminous beacon, forming around a central structure of the arch.  Though these are not large, or overly expressive works, they are in fact grandiose in their own way.  They vibrate, radiate and shimmer with contrasting colors and palette shifts like light bouncing from one object to another.  Within that contrast is where these works extend beyond just an idea or a form, they luminate in a rapid and endless motion.

Dan Perkins lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received his MFA from American University in 2013.
