Michael Phillips

Michael Phillips is a young self taught artist hailing from rural New Hampshire.  Regardless of his location or geographical demographic the talented painter strikes at the heart of some his fellow metropolitan peers.  We discovered Michael through mutual friends and the owners of Kelley Stelling Contemporary located in Manchester, New Hampshire.  An incubator for up and coming talents such as Shaina Gates, Abba Cudney and Mike Howat.  Even more established artists such as Richard Jacobs and legendary New Hampshire ceramicists Al Jager have shown there work their regularly as well.

Michael's work is not just limited to paintings either.  It varies from painting to book making and additional forms of specifically affordable art.  Within his work is a fascinating juxtaposition, one that accompanies moments of absolute freedom and spontaneity, with complete accuracy and clarity.  The form, shape, confidence and energy all translate in an abstract way that blend beauty with chaos.  Almost as though he's translating to paper the skill of skateboarding or surfing in a completely different way.  Tapping into that edge of human nature, and in his own way, walking right up to that line.
