Press Release

LAUNCH F18 is honored to present Wish You Were Here, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Brooklyn based artist, Rachael Tarravechia.  Wish You Were Here opens on Saturday, October 23 and remains on view through Saturday, December 4, 2021.  This exhibition proudly marks the debut New York solo exhibition for Tarravechia.

Creating a world into which the viewer feels the passage of time, Tarravechia illustrates her hyper detailed narratives with decadent color and remarkable juxtaposition. The paintings for Wish You Were Here, each propose their own story, bound together by the illusion of occupancy and time. Upon first glance, each world Tarravechia has built is warm and inviting, sewn together by red, pink, and blue gradients. Subtle detailing of clouded borders, serine landscapes, and enchanting decor create visual metaphors for each measured moment.

But upon closer inspection, are these idyllic depictions of space as serene as they appear? Tarravechia alludes to a moment that begs this question. A light left on in the bathhouse, a half burnt candle flickering beside the faucet reveals the viewers blatant voyeurism and extended boundaries by entering this space. Taking reference from the places she has traveled, from Ohio to Japan, Tarravechia exposes the intimacy of a private moment. Her attention to not only detail, but the aesthetic choices that are included in each work, display her mastery of spectral sentiment - invoking an emotional feeling beyond what the eye can see.
